Only had breakfast there and had great food and service each of the six times. Food is excellent and prices are reasonable. I told my wife for her birthday, pick anywhere in San Diego for brunch, like hotel Dell, or Marriott or ... She picked Kountry Kafe. I actually look forward to going to the next door Toyota dealer for maintenance, so I can have breakfast at the Kountry Kafe.

A local greasy spoon type diner with a good amount of seating and a nice menu. A breakfast and lunch spot. Staff is okay and service is okay. Prices are reasonable. I got the french toast delight, which is two slices of french toast, 2 eggs, 2 bacon/sausage. It was cooked well, the french toast had a thin crispy cinnamon layer that makes this slightly different than other places.

I love Kountry Kafe because it's like being "home" (I'm from the Midwest). It's always clean, meals are delivered quickly and the employees are super friendly. One of the servers treated us like we were part of her family. She was so sweet. The omelettes here are really big and always delicious. At our most recent visit my husband had a spinach and cheese omelette and I had mushroom and cheese. His red-skinned potatoes were done to perfection. My hash browns were delicious. He got an English muffin and I asked for a biscuit. I was shocked at the size of the biscuit - it was HUGE!! Hubby said the homemade salsa was excellent. Honestly we haven't had anything but breakfast here because A. it's awesome and B. it's served all day!!

So glad we decided to drop by here for breakfast after our treacherous hike at Lake Poway. Worst 3 miles of my life (I'm kidding...not really, it was really hot). This place is a family owned diner. It appears to have been around for a while. I love supporting local businesses and I'll tell you first hand, this is a good one to support. I went inside and let the hostess know that we would be taking a seat on their front patio (we had our little furbaby with us) and she was out within a minute to bring us menus. She was friendly and answered some questions we had and took out beverage orders. She brought out our drinks and said our server would be out to take our meal orders. He came out to us in a couple minutes (service was very fast) and took our orders. Food was ready and on our table within 10 minutes and it was fresh and flavorful. I ordered the pancakes with bananas, strawberries and blueberries topped with whipped cream. Hubby had the meat lovers omelette with a side of potatoes. We had no complaints about either plate. I had two qualms with this place. They never once mentioned that we needed to go up to the counter to pay. Fortunately, I had read some Yelp reviews and knew what to expect, but we should have been verbally notified to come inside to pay. Also, my pancake order was 8.75 on the menu but charged at 10.99. I wasn't going to make a fuss over 2 bucks but part of service is getting the customer's total correct. We'll come back but I'll study the bill before paying.

I must admit this Yelp snob was worried coming to a 3 star joint but I decided to try it anyway due to photos and proximity to my hotel. I usually go to a place by its stars, usually 4+ and their photos. This is an old neighborhood Restaurant who sees a lot of regulars and seniors; I'm sure for their extra 62 and over senior priced menu. Seat yourself. Menus on table. Fast service. You can tell these ladies have worked here a loooong time. I rarely get inspired to write reviews anymore unless I'm pretty pissed off and need to yelp or I'm pretty happy and have to give praise. I felt compelled to write as this little cafe is deserving more than 3 stars. Sure the ambience is outdated but it has its charm WHEN combined with good service and great food. As a bonus, prices are cheaper than Denny's. That's what I got! Very Crispy, thick bacon! Mmm! Perfectly cooked sunnyside eggs! (That's not always easy to get), perfectly fried crisp hashbrowns just the way I requested them to be. And as a bonus.... Homemade salsa that tasted fantastic! I read about this in other tips and reviews before coming here and a horrible memory of Denny's salsa came to mind that I quickly dismissed it, but nope my fellow yelpers got it right! Ps coffee is quite weak here, so you'll need to get your caffeine fix elsewhere. The sausages were eh just ok.
